This is a large wall mirror made here at "mission style mirrors" using quarter-sawn white oak. This uses mortise and tenon joinery which I use on virtually every piece for so that I can guarantee they last a lifetime. This particular mirror is modified version of an old Stickley framed mirror built at the turn of the century. This fabulous piece measures 36" high by 14.5" wide. The shelf is 2.5" deep by 14". The vertical pieces (the stiles) measure 3" wide. The horizontal pieces (the rails) measure 4" wide. The mirror itself is a beefy 1/4" thick.
After machining all parts, every segment is sanded to 150 grit sandpaper. The frame is then hand-rubbed with a wood conditioner to allow the stain to take evenly. At this time the frame is ready for stain which in this case is a minwax red mahogony. After several coats of the hand-rubbed stain, I spray on several coats of a satin shellac, lightly sanding between coats. This insures a nice smooth finish. The decorative pegs in the corners are "Black Walnut".
This piece is sure to become a family heirloom and will warm up any room in your home.
